Texas Oncology’s Longview Campus Set for $11M Expansion, Adding New Equipment

Texas Oncology’s Longview campus is undergoing a major expansion and renovation project to accommodate more providers, patients, and medical equipment. With an investment of over $11 million, the cancer center at 1300 Fourth St. will add 3,000 square feet of space, expanding the facility by 11%. The project aims to modernize and enlarge patient waiting and exam rooms, chemotherapy infusion rooms, and offices. Additionally, space will be allocated for new MRI and CT scanners, further strengthening the center’s ability to provide comprehensive care management.

Dr. Larry Frase, the medical director of Texas Oncology-Longview, stated that the renovation project will create a larger and more efficient clinical space to enhance the patient experience. As the Longview area continues to grow, Texas Oncology is committed to investing in its facilities to meet the increasing demand for high-quality cancer care in the community.

The Longview cancer center, which opened in 1983, has been a busy and highly regarded facility. However, due to the growing number of patients, there was a need for more space to accommodate providers. The center saw a substantial increase in patient volume, with 42,000 people visiting the facility in the past year alone, representing an 8.2% increase from the previous year. The number of new patients also rose by 6.8%.

The expansion project aims to address this surging demand by providing additional office space, exam rooms, and cutting-edge medical equipment. Dr. Joseph Chip Hodges, a radiation oncologist at the Longview center, expressed his belief that patients choose to receive their care locally because they feel at home and prefer not to endure the inconvenience and expense of traveling to another city. Being able to access cancer care close to home also offers advantages in terms of treatment outcomes.

During the expansion and renovation process, the Longview center will continue to operate, minimizing any inconvenience to patients. The project is scheduled for completion in April. The new and improved facility will feature expanded windows and more natural light, creating a soothing and natural environment for patients, similar to the current chemotherapy infusion room with its view of the surrounding greenspace.

Texas Oncology’s investment in capital improvements statewide over the past six years now exceeds $150 million. The Longview expansion aligns with the organization’s core principle of providing patients with access to high-quality cancer care locally, reducing disruptions to their daily lives. Texas Oncology aims to ensure that the Longview campus remains at the forefront of cancer care, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a compassionate, patient-centered approach.

In conclusion, Texas Oncology’s Longview campus is undergoing a significant expansion and renovation project to meet the growing need for cancer care in the local community. The $11 million investment will result in a larger facility with modernized infrastructure, additional medical equipment, and an enhanced patient experience. This expansion reflects Texas Oncology’s commitment to providing accessible and comprehensive cancer care close to home.
