Two Killed and Three Injured in Deadly Shooting at McDonald’s in Marseille
A shocking incident unfolded late on Saturday in Marseille, France, as a woman and a man in their twenties lost their lives in a double fatal shooting. Three others were also injured during the attack, which is now under investigation by local authorities.
According to prosecutors, the harrowing incident took place in the car park of a McDonald’s restaurant. The victims were sitting in a car when another vehicle pulled up alongside them. Gunfire erupted, and the driver and front passenger of the car were fatally shot by bursts of fire from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
Among the three wounded passengers in the backseat, two men and one woman suffered serious injuries. The men are known to be involved in the drug trade and violence in the nearby region of Toulon, while the women have no criminal records.
The shooting occurred shortly before 11:00 pm in Marseille’s 16th district, an area known for its poverty and high crime rates. Local authorities confirmed that the incident is being treated as a murder and attempted murder connected to a criminal gang.
Tragically, one of the injured men, a 29-year-old who sustained bullet wounds to the chest, remains in critical condition, fighting for his life. Additionally, one of the women lost her thumb in the attack. The third passenger in the backseat sustained only minor injuries.
Police investigating the incident found shell casings from the 7.62-millimeter ammunition typically used in Kalashnikov rifles at the crime scene. Furthermore, a burned-out vehicle, believed to belong to the perpetrators, was discovered nearby.
Marseille has unfortunately witnessed a surge in violence related to the illegal drug trade in recent years. Shockingly, this year alone, over 45 people have lost their lives in drug-related violence incidents within the city.
