Severe cyclones have hit India and Pakistan, causing power outages and leaving thousands of people without electricity. The cyclone, named Biparjoy in the Bengali language, weakened to a cyclonic storm after making landfall in Gujarat, India, on Friday morning. Winds were expected to continue reducing in strength into the afternoon. Gale-force winds uprooted trees in Indian coastal areas, while heavy rain caused floods, killing at least two people who were swept away in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district. Over 180,000 people had been evacuated in India and Pakistan in preparation for the cyclone. Karachi in Pakistan was on high alert with some rain reported in the region.
