Jamshedpur to Conduct Intensive Pollution Monitoring During Diwali Celebrations
Monitoring pollution levels during Diwali has become a crucial undertaking for authorities in Jamshedpur. In an effort to protect the environment and ensure the well-being of its residents, intensified surveillance of noise, air, and water pollution will be carried out at more than ten locations across the city, including Adityapur. To facilitate this monitoring, specialized machines will be installed in prominent areas like Sakchi and Bistupur roundabouts, Adityapur Indira Chowk, Bistupur Voltas Building, Silent Zone TMH, MGM Hospital, and near the New Court in Golmuri.
As part of these efforts, specific limits for noise pollution have been set in different areas. In residential zones, the acceptable levels of noise pollution are defined as 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night. However, in silent zones, such as hospitals and educational institutions, the limit is even lower at 40 decibels.
Not only will noise pollution be monitored, but water quality will also be closely examined in areas surrounding the Kharkai and Subarnarekha Rivers, as well as downstream and nearby residential areas. This proactive approach towards water pollution aims to safeguard the health of the community and prevent any adverse effects on the surrounding ecosystem.
Furthermore, air quality will be a major focus of assessment during Diwali, when the bursting and lighting of firecrackers contribute significantly to pollution. The impact on air purity will be observed, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) will be closely monitored in collaboration with the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), and Jugsalai Municipality. This comprehensive assessment will provide essential data to understand the current state of air pollution and formulate strategies to mitigate its impact during the festive season.
