Rampant Religious Conversion Raises Concern in Chhattisgarh; BJP Aims to Ban it

The issue of religious conversion has become a matter of concern in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vowing to put a ban on such practices if they come into power. Addressing a rally in the poll-bound Sitapur constituency, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the ruling Congress government for the collapse of law and order in the state.

Singh highlighted the alleged rise in offenses like murder, cases of missing girls, human trafficking, and the drug trade. He emphasized the need to uproot the Congress government from the state, pointing out their failure to maintain a secure environment for the people.

Promising action, Singh asserted that if the BJP forms a government in Chhattisgarh, they will strive to eliminate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) from the state within the next three to four years. He claimed that under the previous BJP rule from 2003 to 2018, they had successfully brought LWE under control, although it has resurfaced during Congress’ regime.

In addition to security concerns, Singh also targeted the Bhupesh Baghel-led government over alleged scams, accusing them of failing to undertake any significant development projects in the state.

The first phase of polling for 20 out of the total 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh took place on Tuesday, while the remaining 70 seats will be contested on November 17.
