Man from Tamil Nadu Makes Childhood Dream Come True, Ventures into Horse Riding and Breeding

While horse riding is more commonly perceived as a leisure activity today, there are individuals like Nandakumarthaniyar from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, who harbored a childhood dream of mastering this ancient art.
Nandakumarthaniyar, who currently runs a successful pet shop dealing in various dog breeds, including Alangu Mastiffs and Dobermans, always nurtured a deep fascination for horses. Two years ago, he took a significant step towards fulfilling his dream by purchasing a Kathiawar breed horse worth Rs 1 lakh. In his spare time, he diligently learned the art of horse riding.
Reflecting upon his passion, Nandakumarthaniyar shares that his love for horses was initially sparked during childhood when he would enjoy horse rides on the serene beaches. Today, he raises his horse not only as a personal statement but also as a symbol of fashion. Interestingly, a friend of his also owns a horse, and together they embark on delightful rides in the mornings and evenings to exercise and relish their shared interest. Notably, they choose roads that are less congested to ensure their safety.
To care for his beloved horse, Nandakumarthaniyar ensures a well-balanced diet comprising peanut candies and dates, costing him Rs 600 per day. He mentions that their chosen horse can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, but they limit their daily rides to a maximum of 30 kilometers. He also emphasizes the importance of understanding a horse’s emotions, revealing that angry horses tend to make distinct sounds, which serve as a cautionary signal. Moreover, he advises against mounting the horse incorrectly, as an inexperienced attempt might provoke the horse to kick. Nandakumarthaniyar admits that he had to learn the art of riding through trial and error, with one of his friends even enduring a fractured skull during their learning journey.
