Alabama Basketball Signs Two Highly-Touted Recruits for 2024 Class

Alabama basketball has made a big splash in the recruiting world by officially signing two top-tier prospects for its 2024 class. The Crimson Tide has added five-star power forward Aiden Sherrell and four-star small forward Naasir Cunningham to its roster. With the early signing period for basketball currently open, these two players are the only commitments Alabama has received so far for the 2024 class.

Aiden Sherrell, ranked as the No. 2 power forward and No. 18 overall player in the nation, brings an impressive skill set to Alabama. Standing at 6-foot-10 and weighing 225 pounds, Sherrell showcased his talent in the Overtime Elite League, averaging 18.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Additionally, he contributed 13 points and 5.2 rebounds while playing for Vegas Elite on the Nike EYBL Circuit. Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats expressed his excitement about Sherrell, highlighting his versatility, shooting ability, and his effectiveness as both a lob target and perimeter player.

Naasir Cunningham, the No. 15 shooting guard and No. 47 overall player in his class, is another noteworthy addition to Alabama’s recruiting class. Cunningham has exhibited great skill and athleticism, making him a valuable asset to the team. Although he will need to put on some weight, Oats is confident in Cunningham’s potential for growth, given the success the program has had in developing similar players in the past. Oats emphasized the team’s ongoing efforts to recruit players who have the potential to succeed at the professional level.

Alabama currently ranks No. 14 in the Rivals team rankings, and Oats emphasized the importance of flexibility in shaping the team’s future roster. The coach noted that they are seeking high school players who can contribute immediately or possess significant long-term potential. Oats also acknowledged the reality of the transfer market, stating that some players are quick to leave if they do not receive immediate playing time. As a result, the team will also consider recruiting players from the transfer portal.

The addition of Sherrell and Cunningham bodes well for Alabama basketball’s future. The Crimson Tide aims to continue recruiting high-quality players who can contribute to the team’s success both on the court and in their professional careers. With a balanced approach to building the roster, Alabama is poised to make a strong impact in the college basketball landscape.
