The Karbi film fraternity gathered on Thursday to commemorate the 15th foundation day of the Karbi Film Society (KFS) in Diphu. The event was held at the Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, and included a series of activities throughout the day.
During the event, three individuals were felicitated by the KFS for their achievement in films. One of the recipients was the renowned film producer and director, Dhaniram Tisso, who received acknowledgement for his recent film, ‘Mirbeen.’ The film has been awarded three accolades at the NIRI9 2nd international film festival held in Kolkata, including best actress, best cinematographer, and best director. The film also won the Prag Cine Award in 2023 as the best film other than Assamese language.
Malin Tissopi was also felicitated for her success in her acting career. She was recently awarded the best actress in the film ‘Mirbeen’ at the NIRI9 2nd international film festival in Kolkata. She has also acted in Karbi films like ‘Pei Ne Kachinghon,’ ‘Kanghon Korhon Jangreso 2,’ Rahi and many more.
Finally, Rupali Timungpi, another KFS honoree, was previously crowned Miss Karbi Anglong in 2020 and Miss Assam in 2022. She was also recognized with the titles of Woman of Dignity, Best Catwalk, and Miss Beautiful Body at the Miss India contest in 2023.
The event’s chief guest, Padmashree Dhaneswar Engti, praised the KFS’s contribution towards promoting the local Karbi culture and language. He stated that films are an essential medium of entertainment and that it is vital to promote different cultures and languages through this medium.
The KFS’s president noted in his speech that the organization is dedicated to developing Karbi films. The KFS continues to collaborate with appropriate authorities about the issues and problems of the film fraternity. The organization’s priority is to work in the best interest of the local film industry.
Lastly, KFS participants held a tribute to Karbi’s legendary musician, Rangsina Sarpo, at his statue. As part of the celebration, the KFS also planted tree saplings at Taralangso complex.
