Hospital Orderly Dies After Being Denied Treatment Due to Lack of Bed Space
Tragedy struck at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital – ESUT-Parklane as a ward orderly lost her life after being denied medical treatment due to a lack of available bed space. The incident has left the hospital staff grieving and despondent.
The deceased, identified as Florence Eze, had recently given birth at the hospital. However, just two days after the delivery, she began experiencing complications and was rushed to the theatre for treatment. After a few days of recovery, she was once again rushed to the hospital, but the doctors in the emergency ward refused to attend to her, citing a lack of available bed space.
Despite pleas from nurses and other staff members, the chief doctor at the emergency ward stood firm in his decision. Shockingly, Florence Eze lost her life as a result of being denied the urgent care she needed.
In response to this tragic incident, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Bertrand Ngwu, has instructed that no patient should be rejected solely due to a lack of bed space. He has pledged to personally oversee the performance of doctors and nurses at the accident and emergency unit to prevent a recurrence of such a devastating loss.
To offer some consolation to Florence Eze’s grieving family, the CMD has promised to refund all the money they paid to the hospital. Additionally, any outstanding payments owed to the hospital will be waived as a gesture of support to the family.
Efforts to reach Prof. Ngwu for further comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls or respond to a text message.
