New York City Mayor Eric Adams is currently under investigation for alleged foreign donations to his campaign. Adams stated during an interview that he is not familiar with the company at the center of the investigation, KSK Construction Group, which supposedly has ties to a Turkish hotel chain. He emphasized that his campaign has strict compliance standards for receiving donations and that his compliance team reviews checks before they are deposited.
The investigation took a serious turn when the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the home of Adams’ chief fundraiser, Brianna Suggs. Adams immediately canceled his meetings in Washington, D.C., and returned to New York City to address the situation. However, he clarified that he hadn’t been contacted by any law enforcement agency and that his compliance team would cooperate fully if anyone was found to have acted inappropriately.
The New York Times has reported that Adams’ campaign is being investigated for potentially receiving foreign donations from the government of Turkey. The FBI has seized financial and travel records related to Turkey, as well as records of interactions with representatives of the Turkish government. They suspect that KSK Construction Group and Bay Atlantic University may have acted as straw donors for the Turkish government.
According to records reviewed by The New York Post, eleven employees from the construction company made donations to Adams’ campaign in 2021. Nine of them donated $1,250 each on the same day. Both Adams and Suggs have not been charged with any crime at this time.
Adams has stated that he has been in communication with Suggs since her home was searched and that she is in touch with the campaign team’s attorney. It remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold.
