Funeral Arrangements Announced for Prominent Lawyer Anthony Akoto Ampaw
The funeral of the late lawyer Anthony Akoto Ampaw has been scheduled to take place from December 15 to 17, 2023. The announcement was made by the family during a one-week celebration held on November 6, 2023, at his residence in Accra. Lawyer Akoto Ampaw, known for his legal prowess and dedication to championing human rights campaigns and fair justice, passed away on October 20, 2023, after a prolonged illness at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
During the one-week celebration, many dignitaries, including senior members of the governing New Patriotic Party, paid their respects and honored the memory of Lawyer Akoto Ampaw. His contributions to the legal fraternity, particularly his role in defending President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s victory in the 2020 presidential elections at the Supreme Court, were widely recognized and appreciated.
Lawyer Akoto Ampaw was highly regarded and was expected to be appointed as the Special Prosecutor following the president’s approval of the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill. He was affectionately known as ‘Che Che’ since his days as a student at the University of Ghana. As a partner at Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co., the law firm of President Akufo-Addo, he made significant contributions to the legal profession.
Having graduated from the University of Ghana in 1973 with an LL.B. degree and later from the Ghana School of Law in 1993 with a B.L. degree, Lawyer Ampaw had an impeccable legacy in the legal fraternity. He was admired for his unwavering commitment to human rights and his relentless pursuit of justice.
