The Indian IT Ministry and tech giant Google announced a collaboration on Thursday to enhance online cyber safety awareness across the country. Google will work closely with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to promote its Stay Safe Online campaign through several initiatives that focus on online safety. These are set to include expanding literacy programs for cyber safety, creating multi-lingual online content on safety measures, and educating users about online information navigation.
India is leading several innovative digital projects, which means more citizens than ever are using the internet. Therefore it is critical to ensure that the internet is safe for everyone who uses it. To that end, Google will also implement its ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program to promote essential online safety fundamentals that cover various online risks.
Establishing safe online practices is a universal issue and one that requires a globally consistent solution. With India leading the G20 Presidency, the country has a fantastic opportunity to establish a model of the internet that promotes inclusion and establishes new global standards. The surge in digital activities demands sensitizing people of all ages to the potential dangers that exist online and adopting measures that will safeguard users and improve overall cyber hygiene.
As part of their collaboration, Google, and the IT Ministry are working to enhance users’ awareness of the threat of cyber fraud, identify online scams, and encourage best practices to counter them. With over 700 million internet users in India, the introduction of these safety measures is more crucial than ever. Speaking of the joint initiative, Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President of Google India, said, It is important to ensure that the internet is inclusive and safe for all.
