Zimbabwe Opposition Lawmaker Abducted, Assaulted, and Dumped Near Harare
A horrifying incident has taken place in Zimbabwe as an opposition lawmaker was abducted, assaulted, and later found naked and badly injured near Harare. The victim, Takudzwa Ngadziore, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and one of the youngest legislators at the age of 25, captured the initial moments of the attack on a live video on Facebook. The footage showed a man approaching him with a rifle before abruptly cutting off after just seven seconds.
According to Amos Chibaya, the CCC’s chief whip in parliament, Ngadziore was abducted while he was on his way to parliament. He was forcefully taken at gunpoint, tortured, and injected with an unknown substance. This distressing incident is being viewed as an alarming example of politically motivated violence.
Confirming the abduction, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi stated that they would be filing a police report regarding the incident. However, when contacted for comment, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi claimed to be unaware of the reported incident.
This shocking incident comes only two months after the abduction of another CCC councilor, Womberaishe Nhende, who was forced to flee the country as a result. It is worth noting that Zimbabwe’s opposition parties have been demanding a fresh election ever since President Emmerson Mnangagwa secured a second term in office. Despite concerns over irregularities in the electoral process, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) recently endorsed the election results during an extraordinary summit.
The abduction, assault, and dumping of an opposition lawmaker highlights the escalating political tensions and violence in Zimbabwe. The incident not only raises concerns about the safety and security of opposition figures but also the overall state of democracy in the country.
