Sam Kerr has made history by being named the AFC Player of the Year. Football Australia praised Kerr’s dedication and contributions to the sport, both in Asia and globally. At 30 years old, Kerr became the third women’s footballer to win the award more than once, cementing her place in Asian football history. She is also the first Australian player, male or female, to secure multiple victories at one of Asia’s top football awards. Kerr’s recognition follows her impressive second-place finish at the Ballon d’Or Feminin. Football Australia also received the AFC President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football in the Gold Category, and three Australian match officials were honored with the AFC Referees Special Award. Kerr couldn’t attend the award ceremony as she is currently leading the Matildas in the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
