Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chief Ghulam Nabi Azad stated on Wednesday that he does not see any advantage in opposition unity before the 2024 Lak Sabha elections. Speaking of the recent meeting of opposition parties called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Azad confirmed that he had not been invited to it. He argued that there is no benefit for both sides in presenting a united opposition front for the elections. He pointed out that the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have no MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) in West Bengal and suggested that an alliance with the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress would not be beneficial for the latter. Azad clarified that he still supports opposition unity to defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming general election, but he does not see any advantage in it before the election. The former Congress leader praised the leadership of the Congress in various states for the party’s recent electoral successes.
In other news, Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar and Bakerwal Conference J&K General Secretary Ch Mohammad Yaseen Poswal joined the DPAP on Wednesday. Poswal joined the party along with hundreds of his supporters in the presence of DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad, Treasurer Taj Mohiuddin, and General Secretary Ch Haroon Khatana. While welcoming Poswal into the party, Azad emphasized that the DPAP is a party that serves the common people and supports policies that benefit them. Azad said that their party, with its pro-people policies, would win the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Poswal stated that he was impressed with the DPAP’s policies, which address the Gujjar and Bakerwal community’s interests and concerns.
