Agnimitra Paul, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state general secretary, has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following alleged violence during the filing of nominations for Panchayat polls. Paul has compared the situation in the region with the Russia-Ukraine war and has demanded the deployment of central forces before a bloodbath ensues. Several opposition leaders have accused the state of violence during the election process. The Panchayat elections are due to be held in West Bengal on 8 July and the counting of votes will take place on 11 July.
