On Wednesday evening, a minor fire broke out in the check-in area of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia called the incident unfortunate and stated that he is in contact with the airport director while the situation remains under control. Scindia further added that the cause of the fire will be investigated at the earliest.
However, the fire has been brought under control, and all passengers and staff have been safely evacuated from the area. The check-in process resumed at 10:25 pm. According to reports, the fire started in the papers stored in the official storeroom and then spread to the AC duct. The airport officials stated that no arrival flights were affected due to the fire incident.
Several fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the airport to extinguish the flames. Thankfully, no casualties were reported, and the situation was under control within an hour. Passengers who were present during the fire reported seeing the flames and expressed fear and panic.
The Kolkata airport authorities assured the public that the check-in process and operations have resumed, indicating that the incident has not disrupted flights. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and the authorities are investigating into the matter.
