RTI Activist Pradip Pradhan Arrested in Mental Harassment Case against Olympic Sprinter Dutee Chand
In connection with a mental harassment case filed by renowned Indian sprinter Dutee Chand, Right to Information (RTI) activist-turned-politician Pradip Pradhan has been arrested by the Odisha Police. Pradhan, who also serves as the secretary of the new political outfit ‘Mo Dala,’ was apprehended by the Mahila police station under the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police.
Dutee Chand had previously lodged a complaint against Pradhan and a few others, alleging that she had suffered mental harassment due to her poor performance in the Olympics two years ago. Dissatisfied with the lack of action taken against the accused, Dutee decided to escalate the matter by approaching the Orissa High Court.
After considering the case, the court directed the police to initiate legal action against Pradip Pradhan. Initially, Pradhan was not arrested, prompting Dutee to make several visits to the police station before ultimately seeking intervention from the High Court to secure his arrest. Feeling relieved by the recent development, Dutee expressed her satisfaction with Pradhan’s apprehension.
However, Pradhan vehemently denies the allegations against him, claiming that a false case has been registered. He further alleged that the case was fabricated in response to FIRs lodged against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and former bureaucrat V K Pandian by the political outfit ‘Mo Dala.’
The arrest of Pradip Pradhan in connection to the mental harassment case against Dutee Chand showcases the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing the complaint.
