Two Men Escape Queensland Prison, Urgent Police Search Underway

Two inmates have escaped from the Townsville Correctional Centre in north Queensland, prompting an urgent police search. The Queensland Correctional Services is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Vaughn Michael James Hunter and Fabien Brian Galigan, who fled the facility on Sunday.

Vaughn Michael James Hunter, a prisoner serving 10 months for serious assault, and Fabien Brian Galigan, serving two years and six months for wounding, managed to break free from the correctional facility. Both men are considered dangerous, and authorities have advised the public not to approach them if spotted but instead contact the police immediately.

Hunter is described as 179cm tall with a dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, and has tattoos across his arms and legs, as well as noticeable scars. Galigan, on the other hand, stands at 165cm tall, also with a dark complexion, black hair, and eyes. He has tattoos on his arms, legs, and even on his face.

The Queensland Correctional Services is working closely with the local police to locate and apprehend the escaped prisoners. A spokesperson emphasized the importance of community support, urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the authorities using the emergency hotline, Triple Zero.

The escape of these two prisoners has raised concerns about the security protocols in place at the Townsville Correctional Centre. Questions are being asked about how such an incident was able to occur and what measures will be put in place to prevent future escapes.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by correctional facilities in ensuring the safety of both inmates and the wider community. Prison breaks not only pose a risk to public safety but also highlight the need for continual assessment and improvement of security procedures within the justice system.

Local residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. As the urgent search for Hunter and Galigan continues, authorities are hopeful that with the assistance of the public, the escaped prisoners will be swiftly located and returned to custody.
