Reliance Jio Infocomm President, Pramod Kumar Mittal, has been re-elected as the Chairperson of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) for the tenure of 2023-24. COAI is the official industry body for mobile network operators in India. In a statement issued by COAI, Vodafone Idea Chief Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Officer, P Balaji, was also elected as the Vice-Chairperson for the term 2022-23.
Mittal comes with extensive experience of over 40 years in telecommunications. Prior to joining Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mittal served in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for over 37 years. He served as Deputy Director General (DDG) and then as Senior DDG, working in the telecommunication policy formulation and implementation, licensing, and regulatory wings of the DoT.
Balaji is a member of the Core Leadership Team (CLT) of Vodafone Idea Ltd. He leads the company’s regulatory, public policy and government relations activities, and industry advocacy, corporate communications, reputation management, and CSR. Balaji has held senior leadership positions in Tata Group, AT&T, Ericsson, Nokia India, and Sony Mobile.
The election of Mittal and Balaji was announced after the annual general body meeting of COAI that took place on June 14, 2021. COAI represents all the major telecom operators in India. The industry association was established in 1995 and works closely with the government and stakeholders to promote and develop the telecom sector in India.
