Nasarawa PDP Calls for Respect for DSS Agreement, Condemns APC’s Media Manipulation

The Nasarawa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its concerns regarding the actions of the outgoing governor, Engr. AA Sule, and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a press statement, the PDP called on their supporters to adhere to the principles of No Comments and avoid engaging in media trials.

According to the PDP, Engr. AA Sule and his associates have been attempting to manipulate public sentiment through media coverage and discussions about the recent tribunal ruling in the State Governorship Election. The party believes that these actions are aimed at influencing public opinion ahead of their appeal in court.

Additionally, the PDP accuses the APC and Engr. Sule’s political appointees of increasing their media presence through press conferences, social media posts, and press releases, all of which discuss the outcome of the tribunal. These discussions allegedly involve insults and foul language, contradicting earlier advice from the State Security Service (SSS) to maintain civility in their communication.

While the PDP claims to have respected this advice and adopted a more restrained tone in their responses, they accuse the APC, Engr. Sule, and his supporters of disregarding these guidelines. They argue that insults and discussions of matters pending before the courts in the media are subjudicial and undermine the integrity of legal proceedings, as well as the principles of justice and peace.

The PDP states that in a democracy, courts play a crucial role in resolving legal disputes while safeguarding the rights of all parties. They emphasize that public or media commentary on pending court cases, particularly when based on falsehoods and insults, can influence opinions.

As Dr. David Ombugadu, the incoming governor of Nasarawa State, has advised, the PDP urges its members and supporters to avoid getting embroiled in disputes with the APC and instead focus on upholding their mandate within the rule of law.

The press statement also refers to a recent Supreme Court judgment involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the declaration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the President of Nigeria. Justice Inyang Okoro expressed concern about media trials and the potential threats they pose to judges and justices.

The PDP calls on Engr. A. A. Sule and his associates to respect the earlier agreement made with the State Director of the SSS and refrain from actions that undermine the judiciary or incite their supporters.

The statement concludes with a warning that if the actions of the APC and its leaders persist, the PDP may be compelled to take appropriate measures.

In conclusion, the Nasarawa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) highlights its concerns over the actions of the outgoing governor, Engr. AA Sule, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling for respect for the agreement with the State Security Service and condemning the manipulation of media coverage. The PDP underscores the importance of maintaining integrity in legal proceedings, urging all parties to uphold the principles of justice and peace.
