Indian Golf Prodigy, 13, Makes History at Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships
Thirteen-year-old Kartik Singh has made headlines in the world of golf as the youngest player to make the cut at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships. Although he fell short of a historic win, his remarkable achievement has captured the attention of fans and professionals alike.
Despite his young age, Singh showcased his exceptional talent and determination throughout the tournament. He started with a challenging opening round, posting a seven-over-par 78. However, he bounced back with an impressive performance, carding a 72 in the next round at the demanding Royal Melbourne Golf Club course.
At just 13 years, nine months, and 22 days, Singh surpassed previous records, surpassing China’s Guan Tianlang, who achieved the same feat at age 14 in 2012. Guan’s success continued as he went on to win the championship and even made history by becoming the youngest player to make the cut at the PGA Tour’s Masters in 2013.
Singh undoubtedly had high hopes entering the tournament, but he remained grounded and approached it with no expectations. For him, it was all about gaining valuable experience. However, he did have a goal in mind – to make the cut – and he achieved it with flying colors. Singh expressed his joy, stating, I am so happy that I have managed to do that.
While Singh may not be following directly in Guan’s footsteps, his outstanding performance has left a lasting impression. As the annual Asia-Pacific championship winner receives invitations to both the Augusta and the Open Championship, Singh’s journey is far from over. There is much more to come from this talented golfer.
China’s Zheng Sampson-Yunhe currently holds a four-stroke lead heading into the final day of the tournament, after an impressive round of 65 on Saturday. Singh trails behind, 21 shots behind the leader, but the experience gained from this championship will undoubtedly contribute to his growth as a player.
It is worth noting that the tournament also featured another young talent, 14-year-old Malaysian golfer Andrew Yap. Unfortunately, Yap missed the cut, but his presence alongside Singh demonstrates the rising stars in the world of golf.
As Singh continues his golfing journey, his groundbreaking achievements at such a young age serve as an inspiration to aspiring golfers worldwide. With his passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence, there is no doubt that the world will witness great things from Kartik Singh in the future.
