Afrobeats Superstar Davido and fellow artist Dammy Krane are embroiled in a heated debt dispute, with accusations flying between the two musicians. The controversy started with Davido’s alleged failed business deal with Abusalami earlier this week, leading Dammy Krane to claim that Davido owes him money.
In a post on social media platform X, Dammy Krane accused Davido of not compensating him for writing the hook of his song, ‘Pere.’ He also alleged that Davido sent individuals to physically assault him for speaking out about the issue. These allegations were first made in 2022.
Dammy Krane wrote, I know it is hard for rich people to pay debts, but Davido, if not for my sake, pay me my money. At least do it for the sake of my daughter, who is also your niece. School fees are not easy to come by in Nigeria now, and everyone is trying to secure their future. We need money, it’s not a big deal.
He further addressed Davido, saying, Let’s not forget, you took Idowest from my record label. I didn’t talk about it because I saw you as a brother, and I didn’t want to drag the artiste into this. But now, I genuinely want to know why you don’t want to pay me for a song you claimed I wrote.
In response, Davido took to the same platform to defend himself and made some counter-accusations. He claimed that Dammy Krane was also owing him unpaid royalties amounting to $450,000 (approximately N450 million). Davido also mentioned that Dammy Krane owed him money for food and rent when he stayed at Davido’s home in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, during a period when he was homeless.
The heated exchange between the two artists has sparked considerable debate among their fans and the wider music community. Many are eager for the truth to be revealed and for a resolution to the debt dispute.
It remains to be seen how this dispute will be settled, but both parties seem determined to defend their positions. As the saga continues, fans and industry insiders are watching eagerly to see what happens next.
