Plateau State Police Command Apprehends 17-Year-Old Nigerian Student for Kidnapping and Murdering 5-Year-Old Boy

In an effort to combat the rising cases of kidnapping in Plateau State, Nigeria, the Plateau State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 17-year-old student who confessed to kidnapping and killing a five-year-old boy. The suspect, identified as Elisha Anthony, is an SS3 student. He abducted the young boy and demanded a ransom of N400,000 from the victim’s parents. After receiving the ransom, Anthony’s accomplice, who is currently on the run, allegedly strangled the child to death.

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Julius Alawari, revealed this information during a press conference at the command headquarters in Jos. The investigation began when the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command received a call reporting the boy’s disappearance. Despite a thorough search, the child was not found. The following day, a pair of the boy’s shoes were discovered near a handwritten note demanding a ransom of five million Naira.

The police swiftlly assembled a team led by SP Okala Ugbede, which tracked down Anthony. Upon interrogation, Anthony admitted his involvement in the crime and provided details about where the child was hidden. The police discovered the body in an uncompleted building near Anthony’s residence. The corpse was subsequently taken to the Plateau State Hospital for further examination before being released to the family for burial.

During the press conference, Anthony confessed to the crime and attributed his actions to personal hardship and suffering. He claimed that his parents were unaware of his criminal activities and that he orchestrated the kidnapping without their knowledge. Anthony also admitted to using his mother’s phone to communicate with the victim’s family and demand the ransom.

The incident highlights the pressing issue of kidnapping in Plateau State. The arrest of Anthony is a significant breakthrough for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to curb this menace. The police commissioner assured the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect involved in the crime, as well as any other potential accomplices.

Additionally, CP Alawari informed the media about other recent achievements by the police command. Within the stated period, they have arrested a total of 39 suspects, seized seven locally made pistols, 11 locally fabricated rifles, and confiscated 23 pieces of ammunition.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of strong community vigilance and cooperation in combating crime. The Plateau State Police Command continues to appeal to citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities promptly. Through collective efforts, it is hoped that the state will experience a significant decline in criminal activities, particularly cases of kidnapping and related offenses.

As investigations progress, the authorities are determined to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of the residents of Plateau State.
