External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the US. They also talked about global strategic developments from the perspective of India-US partnership. The meeting was part of Sullivan’s official visit to New Delhi, which was at the invitation of Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
The day before his meeting with Jaishankar, Sullivan called on Prime Minister Modi to discuss matters of bilateral cooperation. The two leaders also reviewed progress under the India-US Initiative on Critical & Emerging Technologies (iCET). In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm for meeting US President Joe Biden during his upcoming State Visit to the US.
Sullivan and Doval also held restricted discussions on regional and global issues of mutual interest, as part of the two-day visit. They later attended the second Track 1.5 discourse hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), where Sullivan spoke about the deliverables that will come out of PM Modi’s State Visit to Washington, including removing obstacles in defense and high-tech trades.
The visit by Sullivan and his delegation of senior US government officials and leaders of the US industry underscores the growing importance of the India-US partnership. As both countries navigate a rapidly changing global landscape, it is essential that they continue to work together to address shared challenges and seize new opportunities.
