ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY REQUESTS OFFICIAL RECOGNITION FOR BRITISH-ISRAELI IDF SOLDIER MURDERED BY HAMAS
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has called on the British government to consider granting official recognition to a British-Israeli soldier who was killed by Hamas militants. Speaking in the House of Lords during a debate on the situation in Israel and Gaza, Welby shared the story of a family he had met in Jerusalem who had lost their son, Yosef, in the attack. Yosef Guedalia, a member of the IDF’s elite counter-terror Duvdevan unit, was fatally shot by Hamas while defending Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Welby praised the UK government for condemning Hamas attacks and asked if they would explore options for recognizing Yosef’s courage as a British citizen. Other peers expressed condolences and condemned the violence perpetrated by Hamas during the debate. Concerns were also raised about pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the UK, with accusations that they celebrated Hamas’s actions. The debate showcased various perspectives on the Israel-Gaza situation and called for peace.
