Brenham Volleyball Team Ends College Station’s Unbeaten Streak in District 21-5A Play
The Brenham volleyball team handed a shocking defeat to the 19th-ranked College Station Cougars, snapping their undefeated streak in District 21-5A play. In an exciting match on Tuesday night, Brenham secured a hard-fought win with a score of 25-20, 30-28, 17-25, 25-17.
With this victory, Brenham (32-13, 12-2) put an end to College Station’s perfect record in the league. Although the Cubettes had suffered a loss on Friday night, College Station managed to claim the outright league title with a win over Rudder.
Both teams will now move on to face 22-5A teams in the bi-district playoffs. College Station will face Killeen Chaparral, the fourth-place finisher, while Brenham will take on Belton, the third-place finisher, at Viking Gym on Monday.
In another District 21-5A match, Montgomery Lake Creek emerged victorious over Rudder, securing their position at the bottom of the standings. Lake Creek won with scores of 25-14, 27-25, 26-24.
Despite a challenging season, Rudder (20-27, 1-13) displayed resilience on the court. Notable performances came from Reagan Aponte with 28 assists and 18 digs, Gabby Baker with 22 digs, Kimora Maxey with 11 kills, and Charity Rayford with nine kills.
The tiebreaker for third place in District 21-5A resulted in four teams occupying the same position: Lake Creek (18-23, 7-7), Magnolia West (17-18, 7-7), Magnolia (20-18, 7-7), and Montgomery (27-17, 7-7). Peyton McKee from Lake Creek impressed with 14 kills, followed closely by Kansas Lamar with 11 kills.
In the junior varsity match, Lake Creek won with a score of 25-13, 25-16, while the Lake Creek freshmen secured a hard-fought win with scores of 23-25, 25-12, 15-8 against Rudder. The Rudder Green freshmen (9-10) were defeated by Talitha Koum with scores of 16-25, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20, 20-18.
In separate competition, the playoff-bound Copperas Cove soccer team dominated Bryan in a District 12-6A match, winning with scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.
Copperas Cove (21-20, 7-5) and Hutto (21-19, 7-5) finished tied for third place in the league, behind Waco Midway (34-7, 12-0) and Pflugerville Weise (27-8, 10-2). Bryan (13-230, 2-10) shared the same position with Harker Heights (8-27, 2-10) and Temple (9-25, 2-10), all finishing fifth in the seven-team league. Unfortunately, the Lady Vikings concluded their season with an eight-match losing streak.
Overall, Brenham’s win over College Station was a significant upset, halting their undefeated streak. Both teams will face tough challenges in the upcoming playoffs. Additionally, Lake Creek triumphed over Rudder, while Copperas Cove dominated their match against Bryan. The playoffs promise excitement as these teams strive for victory and inch closer to their goals.
