Twitch Streamers Expand Reach with Simultaneous Multicasting Across Platforms
Twitch streamers are set to broaden their horizons by simulcasting their content on multiple platforms simultaneously. This move, announced at the TwitchCon Las Vegas opening ceremony, will allow streamers to engage with audiences not only on Twitch but also on competitor platforms like YouTube and Kick. By expanding their viewership across different platforms, streamers have an opportunity to grow their communities and increase their fan base.
The ability to simulcast on various platforms comes as Twitch continues to develop additional tools to support streamers in their growth efforts. For instance, the recently introduced Discovery Feed and Stories aim to enhance the Twitch experience and provide more exposure for streamers. Despite this exciting development, it’s important to note that streamers with Twitch exclusivity agreements will not be able to participate in simulcasting. However, the new update does allow partner streamers who have left for other services to reapply for the Partner Programme.
According to Jeremy Forrester, Twitch’s VP of community product, the decision to enable simulcasting was driven by the Twitch community itself. This move is a testament to Twitch’s commitment to empowering streamers and offering them the freedom to build their communities in the way they see fit. By embracing simulcasting, Twitch intends to solidify its position as the best platform for live, interactive creators.
In addition to the simulcasting announcement, Twitch revealed other updates aimed at enhancing the streaming experience. Guest Star, a feature that allows streamers to invite others on screen, has been transformed into Stream Together with a focus on streamer collaboration. Stream Together will display the combined viewership of all collaborating streamers and will feature improvements such as a favorites list, a do not disturb option, and the ability to merge chats into one.
Twitch also announced various tweaks and updates to optimize the platform further. Featured Clips will be easier to feature, a vertical clip option will be introduced to the Clip Editor, and the Off-Service Policy has been updated to prohibit behaviors such as swatting and doxxing.
