Mexican Food Company Grupo Bafar Plans $22 Million Expansion in El Paso

Grupo Bafar, a renowned Mexican food production company, has announced a $22 million expansion and investment in El Paso. The City of El Paso revealed this exciting development, highlighting the council’s approval of a $715,771 performance-based incentive agreement with Grupo Bafar. The County Commissioners Court has also approved approximately $166,000 in incentives for the company.

To facilitate its expansion plans, Grupo Bafar intends to acquire and renovate the Kasco Structures building in South El Paso while constructing a new 60,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse. This expansion project is set to create 120 new full-time jobs, with the employees benefiting from a wage rate of at least $17.65 per hour. Moreover, Grupo Bafar plans to retain its existing 155 jobs in El Paso.

An important aspect of this expansion is Grupo Bafar’s commitment to combatting food deserts, areas lacking access to fresh, affordable, and nutritious food. The City’s news release emphasized the company’s dedication to addressing this challenge while serving its customers across Texas and the United States.

Jorge Alberto Baeza Fares, CEO of Bafar Alimentos, expressed his gratitude towards the City of El Paso, El Paso County, and Borderplex Alliance for their immense support in Grupo Bafar’s endeavors. With 40 years of experience in making high-quality food, Grupo Bafar is excited to deepen its roots in El Paso and contribute to its growth and success.

El Paso Mayor Oscar Lesser highlighted the company’s alignment with the City’s climate goals. Grupo Bafar has committed to securing 95% of the new facility’s power needs from solar energy. This not only demonstrates their dedication to the local community but also emphasizes their ambition to create a brighter and more prosperous future for El Paso.

County Judge Ricardo Samaniego acknowledged Grupo Bafar’s contribution to El Paso’s supply chain through its logistics operations at the Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry. By utilizing this gateway for trade and commerce, Grupo Bafar supports the local economy. The company’s dedication to hiring local talent further strengthens the region’s growth and resilience.

CEO of the Borderplex Alliance, Jon Barela, expressed his enthusiasm for Grupo Bafar’s decision to expand its presence in El Paso, highlighting the new opportunities it brings to the entire region.

Beyond its expansion in El Paso, Grupo Bafar also has plans to further develop its grocery store presence in Texas over the next five years, creating additional job opportunities in the state.

The positions created by Grupo Bafar’s expansion will encompass various roles, including operations, maintenance, sanitation, quality control, warehouse logistics, and more. With a global workforce of over 12,000 employees, Grupo Bafar’s continued investment in the El Paso region demonstrates its confidence in the city as a hub of economic opportunity.

The company’s belief in El Paso’s potential and its commitment to addressing food deserts reinforce its reputation in the industry. Grupo Bafar’s expansion marks a significant milestone as they strive to better serve their customers and contribute to the local and state economies.
