Florida Man Arrested for Impersonating Law Enforcement on Interstate 75

A Florida man has been taken into custody after he allegedly impersonated a law enforcement officer and attempted to pull over cars on Interstate 75 in Brooksville over the weekend. Earl Cesario, 62, from Tampa, now faces a felony charge of impersonating a law enforcement officer. The incident unfolded on Sunday morning when a trooper pulled over Cesario’s red GMC pickup truck following reports of a vehicle using red and blue flashing lights in an attempt to flag down other cars.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Cesario claimed that he had red and blue lights mounted on his dashboard but denied activating them. However, a witness at the scene told authorities that Cesario’s truck drove up behind his vehicle on the northbound lane of the interstate and began flashing red and blue lights. The witness believed it was an undercover law enforcement vehicle and started pulling over. However, suspicions arose when the truck abruptly sped off.

To investigate further, troopers conducted a search of Cesario’s truck and discovered rotating red and blue flashing lights. What’s more, the lights were found to automatically activate when plugged into the truck’s cigarette lighters, both of which were opened before the troopers tested them, indicating prior usage.

Cesario was taken into custody without incident and is now being held at Sumter County jail. The arrest serves as a reminder that impersonating law enforcement officers is a serious offense with potentially severe consequences.

This incident underscores the importance of being cautious while on the road and knowing how to identify legitimate law enforcement vehicles. Motorists should be aware that unmarked vehicles operating flashing lights could potentially be a cause for concern. It is advisable to pull over in a well-lit area with other people nearby if there are doubts about the legitimacy of a vehicle attempting to stop you.

The Florida Highway Patrol urges anyone who encounters suspicious behavior or suspects someone of impersonating a law enforcement officer to contact local authorities immediately. The authorities rely on community cooperation to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors.

In conclusion, Earl Cesario’s arrest for impersonating a law enforcement officer on Interstate 75 in Brooksville is a stern reminder of the seriousness of such offenses. Motorists are encouraged to stay vigilant, familiarize themselves with legitimate law enforcement identification, and promptly report any suspicious incidents to local authorities.
