Israeli Settlers Threaten Funeral Procession in West Bank
The village of Qusra, located in the northern part of the West Bank, is mourning the loss of four Palestinians who were killed in recent clashes. The text on the image, written in both Hebrew and Arabic, stated, To all the rats in the sewers of Qusra village, we are waiting for you and we will not mourn you. The day of revenge is coming.
Despite the explicit threat, Wadi and other villagers were determined to give their loved ones a proper farewell. The previous day, three Palestinians had been killed when Israeli settlers entered Qusra and attacked a Palestinian family home. A fourth Palestinian was shot dead during subsequent clashes with Israeli soldiers. The villagers had to cross through areas with Israeli settlements in order to reach the hospital where the bodies were being held. The risk of violence was already high, but tensions had escalated further since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Undeterred by the threat, Wadi put his phone aside and focused on preparing for the funeral procession. He mentioned that he had heard similar threats before and would not be intimidated. Little did he know that a few hours later, hardline Israeli settlers would confront the funeral procession. Tragically, his own brother and young nephew would be shot dead at that time.
Reflecting on the devastating outcome, Wadi wondered if postponing the funeral by one or two days would have made any difference. He questioned whether the settlers would have left the area in such a scenario.
