Indian shipyard Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has launched two warships of different classes simultaneously. The keel of a third vessel was also laid during the day, showcasing GRSE’s commitment to delivering warships to the Indian Navy in a timely manner. The third Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) vessel named INS Anjadip was unveiled by Vice Admiral RB Pandit’s wife Priya Pandit, while the fourth Survey Vessel Large (SVL) dubbed INS Sanshodhak, was launched by Tanvi Arora, wife of Vice Admiral Adhir Arora.
GRSE is building eight ASWSWC and four SVLs for the Indian Navy, with the ships currently at various stages of completion. The ASWSWCs can operate close to the coast and search for underwater threats, as well as neutralize enemy assets, such as mines and midget submarines. The warships are armed with lightweight torpedoes and ASW rockets, while equipped with advanced sonar.
Additionally, the SVL named Sanshodhak will carry out hydrographic surveys to chart the ocean floor and provide valuable information on the seas and oceans for defence purposes. GRSE has developed itself into one of the world’s top shipbuilders, with nearly 90% of the ships built by GRSE sporting indigenous content.
Vice Admiral R B Pandit noted that GRSE has constructed over 100 warships since its inception and said the shipyard will continue to scale greater heights in the future. He added that the GRSE and L&T partnership is an outstanding example of public-private partnerships and claimed that such a successful model will set the path for similar future collaborations. Commodore PR Hari stated that the Indian Navy, the Naval headquarters, Production Directorates, Directorates of Ship Production, Warship Design Bureau, and professional directorates have approached problems proactively and positively not just from a technical standpoint but from a project perspective as well.
