The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government plans to repurpose unused spaces beneath flyovers into public amenities including charging stations and play areas. In a letter sent to all district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police, Shashanka Ala, special secretary of the PWD, requested their assistance in identifying sites for public facilities to be developed under flyovers. The letter also called on Resident Welfare Associations to assist in identifying public utilities suitable for the space. Given that the voids beneath flyovers are often misused and can become unhygienic, the PWD hopes to convert them into useful public spaces.
