Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray, son of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has sought intervention in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Bombay High Court regarding the deaths of actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Disha Salian. Thackeray has requested the court to hear his side before passing any orders in response to the PIL, which had demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the deaths and Thackeray’s own arrest.
The PIL was filed in September by the Supreme Court & High Court Litigants Association of India, which sought the immediate arrest and custodial interrogation of Thackeray by the CBI in connection with the mysterious deaths of Salian and Rajput. Thackeray has emphasized that an inquiry is already underway and questioned the maintainability of the PIL when the CBI is already investigating the matter.
Rajput was found hanging in his Bandra apartment in June 2020, and his death was initially attributed to depression. However, his family accused his girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, of playing a role in his demise. On the other hand, Salian, who was Rajput’s former manager, allegedly fell from the balcony of her apartment during a party just days before Rajput’s death.
Thackeray’s involvement in the case has been a subject of political controversy, with accusations made by BJP MLA Nitesh Rane that Thackeray had been present at Salian’s party before her death. There were also calls for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into Salian’s case. However, the CBI concluded that her death was an accident.
Through his plea, Thackeray is seeking an opportunity to present his side of the story and highlight the ongoing CBI investigation. The court is yet to hear the case, and Thackeray’s intervention seeks to address the PIL’s demand for his arrest and the need for a comprehensive report.
It remains to be seen how the Bombay High Court will respond to Thackeray’s plea and whether it will grant him a hearing before making any decisions related to the PIL. Meanwhile, the investigations into Rajput and Salian’s deaths continue.
