Residential Break-ins Surge 22.1% in Toronto in 2023
The number of residential break-ins is on the rise in Toronto, with a surge of 22.1% compared to the same period last year. According to recent reports from the Toronto Police Service, there have been a total of 2,739 reported break-ins in the city since January 1st.
From October 10th to October 16th alone, the police received 56 reports of break-ins at homes, including 18 in the North York district. This alarming increase in residential burglaries has left residents concerned about their safety and the security of their properties.
In the district of Banbury-Don Mills, there have been 55 reported break-ins in 2023. Similarly, in Bayview Woods-Steeles, there were two break-ins reported at an apartment near Finch Avenue East and Rainbow Creekway on October 14th. The Bedford Park-Nortown area has also seen a rise in break-ins, with two incidents reported at a house near Felbrigg Avenue and Greer Road and an apartment near Ridley Boulevard and Wilson Avenue.
Black Creek has reported 13 break-ins this year, and in Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills, there have been a total of 53 break-ins. Don Valley Village has recorded 29 break-ins, while Glenfield-Jane Heights and Henry Farm have reported 16 and 13 break-ins, respectively.
Willowdale East has experienced 59 break-ins this year, including three recent incidents at houses near Dudley Avenue and Kingsdale Avenue, Anndale Drive and Glendora Avenue, and Hillcrest Avenue and Wilfred Avenue. Willowdale West, on the other hand, has seen 19 residential break-ins, with the most recent one occurring at a house near Betty Ann Drive and Stafford Road.
This worrisome trend of increased residential break-ins emphasizes the need for heightened security measures and vigilance among homeowners in Toronto. It is crucial for residents to take precautionary actions, such as installing security systems, reinforcing doors and windows, and participating in neighborhood watch programs. Additionally, residents are advised to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
