Gang-Related Shootings in Tairāwhiti Prompt Police Investigation
Tairāwhiti Police are currently carrying out investigations into a string of gang-related firearms incidents that took place overnight. The incidents prompted multiple calls from concerned members of the public who reported hearing gunshots in the Stout Street/Taruheru Crescent area around 9:45 pm yesterday.
During the course of the investigations, it was discovered that two vehicles of interest were sighted at the scene, and a male in his 20s sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Authorities later received additional calls reporting shots being fired towards a house on Rimu Street from a vehicle, with witnesses also reporting the presence of a firearm.
Given the nature of these incidents, police strongly believe that they are connected to gang-related activities. In response, teams of investigators have been deployed to conduct thorough scene examinations, while reassurance patrolling continues in the area.
Tairāwhiti Area Commander Inspector Sam Aberahama expressed his gratitude to the individuals who promptly reported the incidents, emphasizing that their rapid response played a critical role in preventing further harm.
