Authorities in Delray Beach, Florida have made significant progress in a case involving the armed robbery of a United States Postal Worker in Boca Raton. In February, the Delray Beach Police Department received information from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service regarding a group of individuals believed to be involved in a series of mail thefts in Palm Beach County. The primary objective of these criminals seemed to be robbing mail carriers of their postal arrow keys, granting them access to mailboxes throughout the region.
Upon obtaining the stolen mail, the suspects focused on removing checks. These checks would then either be altered or used as templates to create counterfeit checks, enabling them to deposit money into various bank accounts and reap illicit profits. Last month, Delray Beach police executed a series of search warrants, resulting in the arrest of five men connected to this mail fraud scheme.
During the search, law enforcement officials discovered an abundance of evidence, including over 2000 checks, more than 200 bank cards, a stolen postal arrow key, and five stolen firearms. The individuals arrested in that case are facing charges of organized scheme to defraud, criminal use of personal identification information, and grand theft.
To reassure the public, the Delray Beach Police Department has emphasized that the investigation into this larger mail fraud scheme is ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the near future.
