Austin, Texas – Kaitlin Armstrong, the woman accused of killing cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson in May 2022 and subsequently fleeing to Costa Rica, briefly escaped custody on Wednesday. The incident occurred when Armstrong was leaving a doctor’s appointment at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center on Ben White Boulevard. However, Travis County deputies were able to recapture her just a block away from the escape point.

Armstrong, who is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with Wilson’s death, had previously been captured in Costa Rica after eluding authorities by altering her appearance and using several aliases. Despite her attempts to evade justice, her love of yoga ultimately led law enforcement to her whereabouts in Costa Rica.

The trial for Armstrong’s alleged involvement in Wilson’s murder was initially scheduled for June 26, 2023. However, the start date was recently rescheduled to October 30. In July 2022, she pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

The incident involving Armstrong began when her Jeep was captured on surveillance footage leaving the area where Wilson had been staying during her visit to Austin for a cycling race. Armstrong later sold the vehicle before departing from Austin to New York and then from New Jersey to Costa Rica.

As law enforcement continues their efforts to ensure the accused woman faces justice, the recapture of Kaitlin Armstrong marks a significant step towards closure for the loved ones of Anna Moriah Wilson. The case has attracted widespread attention due to the shocking nature of the crime and the subsequent attempts to evade capture.
