The Third G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) meeting is set to take place in Kochi, Kerala, from June 12 to 13, with more than 75 delegates from various countries and international and regional organisations in attendance. The FWG will focus on macroeconomic issues that are currently relevant globally and will deliberate on the macroeconomic implications of food and energy insecurity, climate change and transition policies, inflation, financial globalisation and financial stability.

Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser for the Union Ministry of Finance, and the acting co-chair, Mr Tom Hemingway of HM Treasury, UK, will chair the two-day meeting. The group is expected to discuss the current global economic outlook based on presentations from international organisations such as the IMF and World Bank. They will also attempt to arrive at a shared understanding of policy experiences and explore areas where global cooperation can help leverage domestic efforts.

As part of the meeting, a G20 panel discussion on Financial Globalisation – Opportunities and Risks will be held. The Reserve Bank of India will also host several Jan Bhagidari events to make G20 discussions more inclusive and people-centric. These will include events on financial literacy, an awareness programme on the G20, a painting competition, slogan writing and a note exchange mela, amongst others, targeted at the general public, students and self-help groups.

In addition, events have been planned to allow delegates to enjoy Kochi’s captivating natural beauty and cultural heritage, including excursions to the Dutch Palace, Paradesi Synagogue and St. Francis Church, and the opportunity to indulge in the delectable cuisine of Kerala. The G20 FWG is a crucial platform where participants can discuss macroeconomic issues and explore opportunities for global cooperation to address them.
