Nepali Prime Minister Takes Urgent Action Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict and Concerns for Nepali Community
Amidst the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for emergency meetings to address the situation and the concerns of the Nepali community residing in Israel. The Prime Minister has summoned a special meeting of the Council of Ministers and an all-party meeting to assess the aftermath of the unprecedented assault in Israel, evaluate the situation of the Nepali community, and discuss diplomatic efforts to ensure their safe return.
The crisis emerged after Hamas, an Islamist militant group, launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday morning. This development has raised concerns for Nepal, leading the government to form a mechanism to monitor the situation comprehensively. During an emergency meeting on Sunday, attended by key officials including the Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers for defense and home affairs, foreign minister, education minister, national security advisor, foreign secretary, and chiefs of security bodies, a Rapid Action Team was formed. This team consists of the foreign minister, representatives from the education ministry, security bodies, and Nepal’s diplomatic missions. Their purpose is to facilitate swift action and collaboration in addressing the crisis.
Tragically, the Nepali Embassy in Israel has confirmed the deaths of 10 Nepali students during the unrest. In response, Israel has officially declared a war against Hamas, intensifying concerns for the safety of Nepali citizens. The Nepali government is determined to safeguard its nationals and is committed to undertaking diplomatic efforts to ensure their secure return.
