A woman in Royalton Road recently fell victim to a phone hacking scam, resulting in unauthorized payments being made from her account. The incident prompted her to contact the police and seek their assistance. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman had called a number she found on Google while searching for a Fit Bit. The person who answered the call instructed her to download an application and enter a specific code, which granted him remote access to her phone. Taking advantage of this access, the scammer initiated two Zelle payments totaling over $900. Worried about the unauthorized activity, the woman promptly contacted her bank to report the incident. However, the bank required a police report in order to issue a refund.
Another incident involving a suspended driver’s license was also reported on Edgerton Road. The police observed a black Ford Fusion registered to an owner with a suspended driver’s license. The driver presented driving privilege papers from the court as proof, but unfortunately, the documentation had expired at the end of July. Consequently, the man was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license. The passenger, meanwhile, received a courtesy ride to his place of employment in Broadview Heights.
