Sheikh Hasina Returns to Bangladesh After UNGA Attendance and Bilateral Meetings

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has returned to her home country after attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and engaging in bilateral meetings. Following her participation in the 78th UNGA session and various high-level side events, Sheikh Hasina visited Washington DC and London to strengthen ties with other nations.

The premier’s journey began with her arrival in London on September 30, after a flight from Washington DC. During her stay in the United Kingdom’s capital, Sheikh Hasina received a warm reception from the Bangladeshi community. She also held several courtesy meetings, including with the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh and Rohingya. Led by Rushanara Ali, an MP and chair of APPG on Bangladesh and Rohingya, the delegation discussed important matters with the Prime Minister. Moreover, Sheikh Hasina met the UK shadow minister for investment and small business, further bolstering bilateral relations.

After fulfilling her commitments in London, Sheikh Hasina headed back to Bangladesh. The Prime Minister’s departure was marked by an official send-off at the airport, where Bangladesh’s high commissioner to the UK, Saida Muna Tasneem, bid her farewell. The flight is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 12:30 am on October 4, as per Bangladesh time.

Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the United States and the United Kingdom was significant in terms of strengthening diplomatic ties, promoting trade and investment, and addressing global challenges. Her attendance at the UNGA session provided her with a platform to voice Bangladesh’s stance on various international issues. Additionally, Sheikh Hasina’s engagement in bilateral meetings aimed to enhance cooperation and foster mutual understanding between nations.

Throughout her trip, the Prime Minister also took the opportunity to connect with the Bangladeshi diaspora residing abroad. She attended a reception organized by Bangladeshi expatriates in the US and visited the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, where she received a warm welcome from the embassy staff.

Sheikh Hasina’s participation in the UNGA, coupled with her engagements during the visit to the United Kingdom and the United States, showcased Bangladesh’s commitment to global affairs. It demonstrated the nation’s active role in seeking solutions to pressing global challenges and its dedication to enhancing relations with other countries.

As Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns to Bangladesh, she brings back with her a renewed sense of optimism and a strengthened commitment to drive the nation forward on the global stage. Her engagement with world leaders, community receptions, and strategic meetings demonstrate Bangladesh’s active role in shaping the future and fostering cooperation in an interconnected world.
