The Congress party has called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the situation in Manipur and take action to restore peace and normalcy in the state. Congress leaders have criticised the BJP government in Manipur for the current situation, which followed violent incidents last month and demanded that an all-party delegation be allowed to visit affected areas and meet with stakeholders. Despite an appeal for peace by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 30 May, the situation has not improved according to Congress leaders. A Peace Committee under the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, has been formed by the central government to attempt to resolve the ongoing ethnic tensions in the region.
