Khalistan Supporters Protest Outside Indian High Commission in London Over Killing of Nijjar
Khalistan supporters gathered outside the Indian High Commission in London on Monday to stage a protest. The protesters were met with a heavy presence of British security forces, who ensured that they were restricted to the opposite side of the High Commission.
The demonstration was held by Khalistan supporters in response to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar, who was designated as a terrorist in India, was killed outside a gurdwara in Canada’s Surrey on June 18.
This protest by Khalistan supporters comes shortly after an incident where the planned interaction between Indian High Commissioner to Britain Vikram Doraiswami and the Gurudwara Committee in Glasgow was deliberately disrupted by three individuals from areas outside Scotland.
In a statement issued by the Indian High Commission in London, it was revealed that the interaction was organized to discuss community and consular issues. However, on September 29, three individuals intentionally disrupted the event and caused a disturbance. The High Commissioner and the Consul General of India decided to leave the premises to prevent any potential altercation.
The incident was reported to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police by the Indian High Commission. Multiple community organizations, including the organizers, expressed regret over the incident and called for action against the culprits.
One of the non-local extremist elements even attempted to violently force open the door of the High Commissioner’s car, which requires suitable police consideration. Fortunately, due to the quick intervention of one of the organizers, a bigger incident was avoided.
Videos shared on social media showed Doraiswami being accosted near the parking area of the Gurudwara in Glasgow by pro-Khalistani individuals who obstructed his entry. Police responded to the disturbance report and are investigating the incident.
The Glasgow Gurdwara strongly condemned the disruption that occurred during the High Commissioner’s visit. They explained that certain unknown individuals from outside Glasgow attempted to disrupt the visit, which led to the decision to leave the premises. The congregation was also disturbed by these unruly individuals, and the Scotland Police is actively involved in the matter.
The statement from Glasgow Gurdwara emphasized that they welcome people from all communities and backgrounds to their place of worship, in adherence to their principles of faith.
