Are you passionate about making a positive impact on people’s lives? Do you have a desire to contribute to the health and social sector? If so, the Support Worker role at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London might be the perfect opportunity for you. With a fixed-term contract until August 2024, this role offers a chance to kick start your career and make a real difference to the lives of those in need.

Even if you don’t have any professional experience, don’t worry! What matters most is your ability to provide care and support to those who need it most. If you have a caring and patient nature, as well as great people skills, then this could be the role for you. It’s not just a job, but an amazing way to give back to your community.

As a Support Worker in the Health and Local Crisis Response team, you will be based in the Emergency department of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. Your primary responsibility will be to provide assistance to patients, undertaking non-medical tasks to help make their stay as comfortable and relaxed as possible. By doing so, you will also free up medical staff to focus on their clinical roles.

A typical day in the life of a Service Support Worker involves escorting patients to assigned departments, collecting prescriptions to speed up discharge, providing emotional support to patients and their families, ensuring patients have food and drink during long waits, and referring patients to other sources of assistance in the community.

To be successful in this role, it is important to have a good knowledge of the services provided by the NHS and Social Care. Additionally, you should possess a thoughtful and caring attitude, with an ability to relate to and support vulnerable individuals. Maintaining professionalism and discretion when dealing with queries is also crucial.

In return for your dedication and expertise, you will receive a range of benefits. These include 36 days of annual leave, including bank holidays, with an option to purchase an additional 5 days. You will also have access to a contributory pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, learning and development opportunities, discounts through the Blue Light Discount Card and employee benefits platform, mental health and wellbeing assistance, and much more.

The British Red Cross is proud to participate in the disability confident scheme for roles based in the UK, ensuring an inclusive environment for all staff and volunteers. The organization is dedicated to providing equal opportunities and fostering a work culture that celebrates diversity and promotes equality.
