The city of Patna in Bihar, India is experiencing a severe heatwave, leading the local administration to announce the closure of all schools in the district until June 18. This includes private, government, pre-school, and Anganwari centers in Patna. According to the district magistrate’s circular, the order is effective starting immediately and will remain in place until next Sunday.
The closure is in response to the ongoing heatwave conditions in several parts of India. An advisory issued by Naresh Kumar, an IMD Scientist, revealed that the main heat wave zone in the country is East India, particularly affecting Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. The IMD issued an orange alert in these regions, with coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also experiencing heatwave conditions.
The official added that Andhra Pradesh can expect a severe heat wave for the next two days, and temperature can rise 6.5 degrees above normal. Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha will be affected by heatwaves for the next 2 to 3 days, with an orange alert issued in Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The decision to close schools aims to protect the health and safety of students and teachers during the heatwave. Parents are encouraged to keep children indoors and hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses during the extreme weather conditions.
The Patna administration’s decision is a necessary measure to ensure the well-being of everyone in the district. The public is urged to take precautions during the heatwave and follow any advisories issued by local authorities.
