He revealed that despite recently becoming unemployed, his financial situation remains secure due to the substantial savings he accumulated while living off-grid. This unconventional lifestyle has allowed him to enjoy the freedom of not having to work.
The journey to his present debt-free state began when Nick worked as an underpaid automotive engineer at a startup. He found himself accumulating debts and resorting to credit cards to make ends meet. Determined to reclaim his financial freedom, he devised a plan to live in vehicles as a solution to the housing crisis and to pay off his debts.
His first mobile home was a Dodge Dakota truck, which he had been driving since high school and had a pop-up camper attached to the back. Being self-taught in suspension construction, he obtained a job at a local automotive startup. His work often demanded all-nighters, prompting the CEO to allow Nick to keep both his Dakota truck and a second project vehicle in the company’s parking lot. The second vehicle, a 404 Series Unimog, was equipped with a bed, wooden flooring, a flat screen, and internet access. Eager for an upgrade that would provide standing room and an onboard bathroom, Nick ultimately purchased a unique hybrid vehicle consisting of two military trucks combined with a 1987 Fleetwood Prowler trailer.
