Violence and corruption have become the new normal in West Bengal, according to Union Minister and BJP leader Anurag Thakur. He slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress for the increase in violence ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state. Thakur went on to say that Bengal is known for cash for the job, and violence has peaked in the lead up to the Panchayat Elections. The West Bengal panchayat elections will be held in a single phase on July 8, with the counting of votes taking place on July 11.
The West Bengal Congress chief, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has also come forward alleging that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is creating an atmosphere of fear in West Bengal leading up to the panchayat polls. Chowdhury expressed concern that the panchayat polls will not be conducted peacefully in the state.
The panchayat polls in West Bengal will be a fiercely contested battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress. This is viewed as a litmus test before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While addressing the rise of violence and corruption in the state, Thakur praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, stating that there is no corruption in his government. With the situation escalating in West Bengal, it is vital that the Panchayat elections take place smoothly to ensure a peaceful transition of power.
