Auto Driver Arrested After Ujjain Minor Rape, Police Fires Shots During Escape

In a shocking incident in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, an auto rickshaw driver was apprehended by the police following the rape of a minor girl. The accused, identified as Bharat Soni, attempted to flee during police questioning, leading to a dramatic chase where the police fired shots at his leg to halt his escape. He was subsequently arrested and is now receiving treatment at the district hospital.

The police had initially detained four auto rickshaw drivers for interrogation after bloodstains were found on the backseat of one of the vehicles. During the questioning, Bharat Soni was identified as the main suspect. The police then took him to village Jeewankhedi for an on-site investigation, during which he made a desperate bid to get away.

As the accused sprinted away, the police gave chase and fired a gunshot, injuring him in the leg. This forced him to fall to the ground, enabling the police to apprehend him and swiftly rush him to the hospital for urgent medical care.

However, it should be noted that this incident does not involve a gang rape, and only one individual, likely the auto rickshaw driver, has been arrested so far.

The victim, a 12-year-old girl, was allegedly seen wandering from door to door in Ujjain seeking assistance. She hails from Satna district in Madhya Pradesh.

The Ujjain police managed to contact the girl’s family, and her grandfather is now traveling to Indore to be with her. The young girl underwent surgery for her injuries at a multi-specialty hospital in Indore on Wednesday, and her condition is reported to be stable.

The incident, which came to light after a video of the partially clothed and wounded minor pleading for help went viral on September 27, has sparked outrage across the nation. Prominent politicians such as Priyanka Gandhi of the Congress party, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee have condemned the incident and criticized the Madhya Pradesh government for the lack of safety measures for women.

The authorities are now working diligently to investigate the case further and ensure that justice is served. The incident has once again brought the issue of women’s safety into the spotlight, prompting calls for stricter measures to protect women and prevent such heinous crimes.

Through prompt police action and the determination to capture the suspect, there is hope that this alarming incident will serve as a catalyst for change and highlight the need for a safer environment for all, especially vulnerable sections of society. The case will be closely followed by the public and will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications.
