EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak Faces Death Threats From Politicians Amidst Corruption Investigations, Kenya

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak is facing death threats from politicians as he carries out investigations into corruption cases. Mbarak, who has investigated prominent individuals, including governors, spoke about the threats during an interview on JKL, Citizen TV. While he acknowledged the challenges of his job, Mbarak emphasized that he remains undeterred and committed to fulfilling his mandate. He revealed that he has received multiple death threats, primarily from politicians who are the subjects of the commission’s investigations. Despite the intimidation, the EACC boss asserted his determination to carry on with his work. He defiantly stated that he is not afraid and will not be cowed by such threats, pointing out that he has faced antagonists head-on and with bravery throughout his career. Since assuming the role of CEO in January 2019, Mbarak has been at the forefront of combating corruption through law enforcement, prevention, education, and the promotion of integrity and ethics. Under his leadership, the Commission has sent numerous corruption files to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, resulting in convictions, acquittals, and withdrawals. Despite the challenges and threats he faces, Mbarak remains resolute in his aim to fight corruption and hold accountable those involved in illicit activities.
